How the estimate is calculated
CoreBase converts the entered weight to grams, multiplies it by fineness, then applies the current spot price per gram in the selected currency.
What fineness means
Millesimal fineness states pure-metal content in parts per thousand. A 750 mark means approximately 750 parts of the metal in 1,000 parts of alloy.

Understand the estimate

Metal content and market price are different from resale price.

What spot price means

Spot price is a market reference for a standard quantity of pure metal. It is not a guaranteed retail, scrap, coin, or jewellery transaction price.

What fineness means

Millesimal fineness states pure-metal content in parts per thousand. A 750 mark means approximately 750 parts of the metal in 1,000 parts of alloy.

Karat and fineness

Gold karat expresses purity in 24 parts; 18K is approximately 750 fineness. Other metals normally use millesimal fineness rather than gold karat labels.

How the estimate is calculated

CoreBase converts the entered weight to grams, multiplies it by fineness, then applies the current spot price per gram in the selected currency.

Questions

Precious-metal valuation, explained

Is this the price I will receive when selling?

No. It estimates raw metal content at a spot reference price. Actual offers can include dealer spreads, refining costs, condition, demand, taxes, and other factors.

Why is a troy ounce different from an ounce?

A troy ounce used for precious metals is 31.1034768 grams. A regular avoirdupois ounce is 28.349523125 grams.

Does the calculator value gemstones or workmanship?

No. It values only the estimated precious-metal content. Stones, brand, craftsmanship, age, and collectible value are outside the calculation.

What happens if price data cannot be refreshed?

A recent cached snapshot may be shown with a clear stale warning. If no usable snapshot exists, the calculator shows an error instead of inventing a price.

Methodology

Reference data and calculation boundaries

Spot prices come from Gold API in USD per troy ounce and are cached server-side for ten minutes. Non-USD display values use the existing Frankfurter exchange-rate service. Fineness options follow published hallmarking standards; weight conversion uses NIST values. Results remain informational estimates.
