URL encoder

Encoder

Enter text or a URL value

Convert characters into a URL-safe encoded format.

URL Component

Process one query value, path segment, or parameter value.

Spaces, Unicode, punctuation, and reserved characters are encoded explicitly.

Encoded result

Ready for your input.

Enter text or a URL component to see the result.

This utility processes a URL component explicitly. It does not validate a complete URL or alter remote data.

What is URL encoding?

URL encoding converts characters into percent-encoded UTF-8 byte sequences for use within a URL component.

Use it for one query value, path segment, or parameter value—not for an entire URL structure.

When to use it

Encode a value before placing it inside a URL component.

Encoding is appropriate when spaces, Unicode, punctuation, or reserved characters belong to one component rather than the surrounding URL syntax.

Percent-encoding examples

Characters are represented explicitly.

Each example processes one URL component using UTF-8 percent encoding.

Spacesummer salesummer%20sale
Slasha/ba%2Fb
Percent100%100%25
Ampersanda&ba%26b

Different responsibilities

URL encoding is not HTML encoding.

URL encoding

Represents bytes inside URL components using percent sequences.

HTML encoding

Represents characters that have special meaning in HTML markup.

Reserved characters

Characters such as /, ?, &, and = can define URL structure.

Frequently asked questions

URL Encoder FAQ

What does URL encoding do?

URL encoding represents characters with percent-encoded byte sequences so one value can be used safely as a URL component.

Why does a space become %20?

The UTF-8 byte value used for a space is represented as the hexadecimal value 20, prefixed by a percent sign.

Should I encode a complete URL with this tool?

No. This version explicitly encodes one URL component. Encoding a complete URL as one component would also encode structural characters such as slashes and colons.

Is URL encoding the same as HTML encoding?

No. URL encoding represents bytes in URL components. HTML encoding represents characters that have special meaning in HTML markup.

Does the encoder send my input anywhere?

No. The transformation uses the browser's built-in JavaScript encoding primitive and does not call an external service.

Sources and methodology

How this utility transforms URL components.

This tool runs locally and uses the native JavaScript encodeURIComponent primitive. It processes one URL component explicitly and does not call an external service.
